Mercedes chief Toto Wolff blasts rival F1 team bosses as Esteban Ocon looks set to miss out on 2019 spot
TOTO WOLFF has blown his top and lashed out at rival F1 bosses over their plans for next season.
The Mercedes boss is livid after he failed to secure places on the grid for all FIVE of the team’s F1 drivers in 2019.
Angry Wolff has accused team bosses of “hidden agendas and lies” after only Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were confirmed for next year.
It means talented driver Esteban Ocon, who currently drives for Force India, could be denied a place on the gird while young Brit, George Russell, could also miss out.
Wolff said: “What has been going on this year in July and August was just unbelievable. There was so much politics in the background, hidden agendas and lies.
“Not all of the good kids are going to be in cars next year and Esteban will probably be one of them.
“In July he had two offers on the table and it was just a case of choosing which one was the right one.
“Then he ended up without anything because people simply don’t have the balls to stick to what they say.”
McLaren opted against signing Ocon and instead promoted British driver Lando Norris and, with Force India, Haas, Sauber, Toro Rosso and Williams to announce their line-ups, the Frenchman could find himself on the sidelines.
However, Wolff says the team would not turn their back on Ocon, 21, even if he is not on the gird.
He added: “One day he will win races and championships in a Mercedes.

“If some guys feel this way, compromising their performance and not taking the best drivers, it is their problem but eventually talent will shine through.”
With the lack of available places on the grid, Merc have been forced to release Pascal Wehrlein when his contract expires at the end of the season.
The German racer spent two years in F1 racing for Sauber before joining Mercedes’ DTM team.
