Leopardstown races tips, racecard, declarations and preview for the racing live on ATR
WHAT a weekend we have in store.
The action at Leopardstown is of the highest order as Day 1 of the Irish Champions Weekend gets underway.
Race 1 – 3.20pm Ballylinch Stud Irish EBF Ingabelle Stakes (Listed Race)
Not an easy race to pull apart as the juvenile fillies go to battle.
I’ll tentatively side with IRIDESSA from Joseph O’Brien’s stable as she looks to be the value at the top of the market.
Her Skitter Skatter form will read well in time and she could improve on only her third run.
Trethias holds obvious claims and Mia Mento is very interesting at big odds.
VERDICT – 1. Iridessa 2. Trethias 3. Mia Mento

Race 2 – 3.50pm Irish Stallion Farms EBF “Petingo” Handicap
The puzzle doesn’t get any easier in the second but I like the chances of SARACEN KNIGHT.
He was impressive a short while ago at Naas and looks miles ahead of the handicapper.
From the same stable Cliffs Of Dooneen looks one to be on the same side as at a bigger price.
Batts Rock is another in flying form and shouldn’t be ignored.
VERDICT – 1. Saracen Knight 2. Cliffs Of Dooneen 3. Batts Rock
Race 3 – 4.25pm KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes (Group 2)
MADHMOON is highly regarded and certainly the one to beat here. He blew away a strong field on his first start and his trainer has done nothing to ease the hype.
Broome is surely better than what he showed at York and shouldn’t be judged on that effort.
Stablemate Western Australia is one to cast your eye over at juicy odds.
VERDICT – 1. Madhmoon 2. Broome 3. Western Australia

Race 4 – 4.55pm Paddy’s Rewards Club Stakes (Group 3)
ROSTROPOVICH has had a tough season and some of his better runs have gone under the radar.
If he brings his A game, he should blow these away.
The King was a talking horse early on in his career and has shown glimpses of quality. He could deliver here.
Mustajeer has to give plenty of weight away but is a hardy type and never runs a bad race.
VERDICT – 1. Rostropovich 2. The King 3. Mustajeer
Race 5 – 5.25pm Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron Stakes (Group 1)
Arguably the horse of the season runs here and it could be the last team she runs in Ireland.
She’ll be no price but ALPHA CENTAURI can’t be beat in this.
With only seven running, there’s little point hunting the each way value.
But Laurens and Clemmie are the strongest of the challengers and could give you a run for your money.
VERDICT – 1. Alpha Centauri 2. Laurens 3. Clemmie
Race 6 – 6.00pm Clipper Logistics Boomerang Stakes (Group 2)
I was sweet on MAKING LIGHT in the Matron at a wild price but she’s decided to run here instead, understandably.
She made a mighty impression on her last start and she could be quite special for Dermot Weld.
Pincheck has to be respected for Jessica Harrington and at big odds Alexios Komnenos could run a huge race.
VERDICT – 1. Making Light 2. Pincheck 3. Alexios Komnenos
Race 7 – 6.35pm QIPCO Irish Champion Stakes (Group 1)
I have to be boring and side with the favourite ROARING LION in the big race.
He’s done nothing but mature and improve through the summer and should take this in style with a smooth run.
Verbal Dexterity can reward each way backers while Study Of Man was on a roll until a quieter effort in native France last time.
VERDICT – 1. Roaring Lion 2. Verbal Dexterity 3. Study Of Man

Race 8 – 7.10pm Irish Stallion Farms EBF “Sovereign Path” Handicap
SIRJACK THOMAS is the one to be with in this hair splitting handicap.
Jonny Murtagh has already shown he can find the perfect spot for his horses and this looks the case with this consistent three-year-old.
Burnt Sugar has obvious claims and Spanish Tenor looks on a tempting mark.
VERDICT – 1. Sirjack Thomas 2. Burnt Sugar 3. Spanish Tenor
