England full back Rose can’t wait, saying: “Everyone wants to be involved. Messi is my favourite player and even if I’m not playing I’d be excited just to watch him.

“We are all spurring each other on for this on – we are all looking forward to the game and it’s a big occasion for the club.”

But Rose stresses there can be no fear factor, saying: “The manager has said that there is nothing you can do to stop Messi. You just have to go out and enjoy it.

“The manager won’t want us to go out there being scared of him. It’s an experience we should all want to enjoy. And it is a game we all feel we can go out there and win.

“If we start well as a team we can pen Barcelona back. It’s not just Messi. We can’t just be thinking about Messi.

“They have a world class front three and all of them are to be feared if we are not on our game on Wednesday.”

Mauricio Pochettino’s men stunned eventual winners Real Madrid last season, drawing 1–1 away and winning 3–1 at home.

Rose stresses: “We were unlucky not to win in the Bernabeu and we outplayed them at Wembley. Not just them, Dortmund as well. So we proved we can do it.

“At the moment we are winning ugly and we are just waiting for the performance to go with the victories.

“We were all disappointed after the way the Milan game finished, so no mistakes.

“This is a massive game and we have to win on Wednesday.”
